Studio Microphone

A microphone, used&nbsp;to amplify a person&rsquo;s voice when speaking or singing.

Previously shown with <a href="/musical-notes/">music notes</a> on most platforms, implying it to be used for a singer / singing.&nbsp;Today&nbsp;only Twitter&#39;s design retains these notes.

Microphone

A classic telephone, as a landline home phone. Most platforms depict a red, push-button phone with the <a href="/telephone-receiver/">handset</a> on the base.&nbsp;Some platforms feature&nbsp;designs with&nbsp;rotary dials.

Used for various content concerning literal and figurative phone calling. Also used as an icon before a phone number.

Black Telephone

The handset of a traditional&nbsp;<a href="/telephone/" title="☎ Black Telephone">telephone</a>, with speaker and microphone. Generally depicted in black at a 45&deg; angle.

Like <a href="/telephone/">☎️&nbsp;Telephone</a>, used for various content concerning literal and figurative phone-calling. Also used as an icon before a phone number.

Microsoft&rsquo;s design is red.

<a href="/au-kddi/type-a-2/telephone-receiver/">Early designs</a> for the telephone receiver emoji from au by KDDI resembled a mobile phone, and vice versa,&nbsp;before having their codepoints swapped in later releases.

Telephone Receiver

A sign on a post, commonly used to promote ideas, causes, or make announcements. Often used used in the context of politics to represent a lawn sign or a poster brought to a protest. Also seen in commercial advertising.

Shown with indiscernible writing or not writing at all, this emoji is flexible in its use. WhatsApp shows a peace sign, which tilts the meaning away from commercial use.
